Meet the Dean:
First Year Female Engineering Students Introduced to the Faculty
Calgary - On September 16, 2004, approximately 150 first year female engineering students will participate in the Faculty's annual Meet the Dean Night. This evening is special to the Faculty because it provides an opportunity for incoming female engineering students to become aware of the many programs and services available to them throughout their academic careers.
The students are given a special welcome by Dr. Chan Wirasinghe, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and are introduced to Dr. Brent Maundy, Chair of the Gender and Diversity in Engineering Committee and Ms. Tamara McCarron, Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Coordinator. A number of female faculty members and representatives from the WISE undergraduate student club are also present to welcome the first year students and answer questions throughout the evening.
Overall this event is a very fun and informal way to welcome first year female students to the faculty and at the end of the evening each student was left with the feeling that they belong to a Faculty that encourages and promotes the success of women in engineering!!
