Hazardous and Solid Waste Management

Risk-based design of sanitary landfills, aerobic thermophillic composting of municipal solid waste, prediction of gas emissions from landfills, oxidation of methane in landfill covers.

Wastewater Treatment

Microbial growth kinetics and energetics. Attached and suspended growth secondary treatment systems. Tertiary treatment systems, including biological nutrient removal. Natural systems for wastewater treatment. Sludge treatment and disposal.

Management of Contaminated Sites

Quantitative human health risk assessment, in-situ bioremediation of flare pit sludge, high-rate in-vessel composting of hydrocarbon contaminated sludge.

Greenhouse Gas Control

Assessment and control of methane gas emissions from abandoned heavy oil operations, oxidation of methane under controlled conditions.
