Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAM

The discipline of civil engineering involves the conception, design, construction and maintenance of civil infrastructure, such as highways, railways, airports, transit systems, bridges, tunnels, and other structures. More recently, civil engineers have become involved in biomedical projects as well as a variety of environmental challenges that affect existing infrastructure and industries.

MINORS AND SPECIALIZATIONS
Within engineering there are six program-specific minors, two interdisciplinary specializations, and two minors open to engineering students in any program. The Schulich School encourages well-rounded graduates, therefore all of its programs offer minors and joint degrees with all other faculties at the university.

APPLY TO A PROGRAM
Students enter first-year engineering at the Schulich School in a common program, and select their departmental program choice at the end of their first-year. To select a program, engineering students assign a rank to each of the eight possible program choices via the myUofC portal in April.

STUDENT LIFE AT SCHULICH
The Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race
The Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race is perhaps the most illustrious event to be part of as a student of civil engineering in Canada. The University of Calgary team was one of the founding participants of GNCTR when it was first held in 1972 and since then has produced a lineage of prestigious toboggans. More>>

Civil Engineering Undergraduate Society (CEUS)
CEUS is a non-profit student organization that represents civil engineering students at the Schulich School of Engineering. Located on the third floor of F Block, CEUS administers the desks and homerooms for the third- and fourth-year students and operates the Real Civil Ceusperstore (ENF 319) during lunch hour. More>>
