Awards / Accolades
Although born in Cape Town, South Africa, Dr. Kallos is a native to Calgary. He graduated with his PhD in 1999 from the University of Calgary and he is currently working in the area of biochemical and biomedical engineering.
He was recently appointed as Associate Director of the Pharmaceutical Production Research Facility (PPRF), where he collaborates with Dr. Leo Behie and Dr. Arin Sen. Dr. Kallos is working on a project at PPRF to grow human neural stem cells used to treat Parkinson's. Kallos is also working on projects to generate clinically relevant quantities of pancreatic progenitors, hepatic oval stem cells and muscle-derived stem cells. He has also been heavily involved in the graduate and undergraduate Biomedical Engineering program at the University of Calgary.
Research interests:
Tissue engineering, bioreactor design, cell culture, biotechnology, animal cells, neural stem cells, hepatic oval stem cells, serum-free medium development, chemical reactor kinetics.
