The CIC Fellowship is a senior class of membership that recognizes the outstanding merits of those who have made a major contribution to the science or to the profession of chemistry or of chemical engineering. Four areas of achievement are recognized:
  • CIC activities
  • scientific and technical contributions; management of science or technology
  • teaching
  • promotion of public awareness of chemistry, chemical engineering or chemical technology.
Candidates should have made contributions in all four areas and outstanding contributions in at least one area.

1999 - Awarded a Killam Fellowship

1998 - awarded the Outstanding Leadership in Alberta Technology Award for his innovative research applying basic principles of chemical reaction engineering to both the animal cell biotechnology field and the energy field. Dr. Behie developed large-scale bioreactor protocols for the production of therapeutics to treat neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis and Huntington's disease. He also developed a new pyrolysis process for upgrading Canadian heavy oils.
